Pupils from Bolton-le-Sands Primary School have been crowned winners of the Heysham District High 5 Netball Championship, as part of the SPAR Lancashire School Games.
Involving 150 pupils from 13 local schools, the event was held at the Bay Leadership Academy and umpired by young leaders from the school’s sports leadership programme.
Teams were split into 2 groups, meaning that every school played at least 7 matches, and games were timed 6 minutes each way.
Bolton-le-Sands achieved the gold medal, with St Peters Church of England Primary School placing second, Westgate Primary School securing third, and Slyne with Hest Church of England Primary School coming fourth.
Tim Fletcher, Lancashire school games organiser for Heysham said: “The standard was very high, and all schools competed fantastically well. We had a great selection of rural schools competing and I would like to encourage more schools to take part in the SPAR Lancashire School Games.
“The games are designed to include a variety of schools and sports within the competition, allowing for smaller schools to take part in competitive sport and provide pupils with the opportunity to represent their district at the SPAR Lancashire School Games county finals.
“Bolton-le-Sands will now go forward to represent Heysham on the 2nd July at Stanley Park, Blackpool, competing against other regional champions from Lancashire. Congratulations to everyone involved and good luck Bolton-le-Sands!”
Other Heysham schools taking part included Greatwood; St Peters; West End; Trumacar; Overton; Westgate; Slyne with Hest; Mossgate; Sandylands; Arkholme; Morecambe Bay; North Road; Bolton-le-Sands.
