Pupils from Walton-le-Dale High School have been treated to a day of media training at Rock FM, learning how to conduct effective interviews, asking the key questions, and learning how to make their subjects feel comfortable and relaxed.
Forming part of the SPAR Lancashire School Games programme, the Year 9 pupils have been selected to act as Young Ambassadors for July’s county finals. Held at Stanley Park, Blackpool, the group of students will be moving around the event, working with Rock FM’s street team in talking to children, teachers and VIPS, reporting on the day’s activities.
Libby Cox, English Teacher at Walton-le-Dale High School said: “Today has been a fantastic opportunity for our pupils to visit Rock FM, see their facilities and learn new skills. The practical activities have definitely helped to increase our pupils’ confidence and allowed them to learn more about the exciting careers available within media.
“Visits such as these, allow our pupils to explore career options that they may not have considered previously, such as journalism, production or audio technology. It’s been a brilliant day and a real boost of confidence.”
The group were also lucky enough to speak to seasoned presenter and Programmes Director at Rock FM, Paul Webster. Paul has had plenty of experience interviewing high profile individuals such as Robbie Williams.
The SPAR Lancashire School Games county finals will be held on the 2nd July, at Stanley Park, Blackpool.
