South Ribble pupils have been developing their athletics skills in the regional SPAR Lancashire School Games Quadkids competition.
Held at Walton-le-Dale High School, 13 South Ribble schools took part in the event, with 4 schools competing for the Worden (Leyland) title, and 8 playing for Brownedge.
Quadkids is a recognised School Games sport, providing a perfect introduction to athletics by featuring four athletic activities; standing long jump; howler throw; 50metre sprint and 400metre run.
Pupils from the host school acted as Young Leaders, helping the Lancashire school games organisers to officiate and keep score at each event. Schools with the most points in each category were crowned the overall winners.
Whitefield Primary School were the champions of the Worden competition, and Lostock Hall Community Primary School succeeded in the Brownedge event.
Kevin Loughran, Lancashire school games organiser for South Ribble said: “This was a fantastic event and all schools should be really proud of themselves. The Young Leaders from Walton-le-Dale High School performed really well and gave the children extra energy, enthusiasm and support. Congratulations to Whitefield Primary School and Lostock Hall Community Primary School – we are looking forward to seeing you both represent South Ribble at the county finals.”
Other schools taking part were Brindle St James Church of England Primary School; St Mary’s Catholic High School Leyland; Ashbridge Independent School and Nursery; Whitefield Primary School; Farington Primary School; Penwortham Broad Oak Primary School; Kingsfold Primary School; St Jospeh’s Catholic Primary School; St Aidan’s Church of England Primary School; Brindle Gregson Lane Primary School; St Marys Magdalen’s Catholic Primary School; St Leonard’s Church of England Primary School; Lostock Hall Academy.
